South Carolina is still reeling from a 2012 state government security breach that exposed about 3.8 million tax returns.

AARP South Carolina and the Spartanburg County Public Safety Office are cosponsoring a free shredding event April 24, from 9 a.m. to noon, at 150 S. Church St. in Spartanburg.

People in any state and of any age can turn to the AARP Fraud Watch Network to learn about scams emerging close to home and how to fight back. To sign up for watchdog alerts, go to aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork.
