Family caregivers spend a great deal of time tending to their loved ones’ needs. They help with bathing, meal preparation, medications, transportation and other tasks of daily living. Considering the energy required, it is no surprise that caregivers need support, too.
As a sponsor of the South Carolina State Senior Sports Classic, the AARP state office is encouraging active lifestyles for the 50-plus crowd. More than 30 events for athletes 50 and older will take place May 16-20 on the campus of Francis Marion University in Florence—the only South Carolina site for the National Senior Games Association, a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee.
AARP Iowa and the state Office of Attorney General are hosting a teletown hall about imposter scams on Tuesday, April 25, from 10 to 11 a.m. AARP also is sponsoring two free shredding events, one in Des Moines on April 29, and the other in Cedar Rapids on May 1.
AARP is working with Pollen Midwest, a nonprofit organization that promotes community building, to create the second annual Minnesota 50 Over 50 list. The crowd-sourced list will honor 50 Minnesotans 50 or older who are making a difference in their community.
AARP Indiana is one of 42 state offices participating in Operation Stop Scams, a series of AARP events across the country in April and May. These events coincide with Money Smart Week, April 22-29, a national campaign to help consumers manage their personal finances more effectively.
Caregiving can be exhausting. The 2017 Lifespan Respite Annual Summit, to be held May 10 at the Wingate Hotel in Helena, aims to help family caregivers refuel and recharge.
