Show off your serve and teamwork during AARP in St. Louis’ Pickleball Classic tournament on Saturday, Dec. 8.

New to pickleball? It’s a game resembling tennis in which players use paddles to hit a whiffle ball over a net. (No pickles are involved.)

The tournament is for doubles teams and will be held at Vetta Racquet Sports West, 1330 Harvestowne Industrial Drive in St. Peters.

If you don’t have a partner, the organizers will match you with one, said Sheila Holm, community outreach director for AARP in St. Louis. All skill levels are welcome.

“We want to provide the novice or newer pickleball player the opportunity to learn from experienced players,” Holm said.

Pickleball contenders will have a chance to win prizes including T-shirts, balls and goody bags.

Players will also be able to watch exhibition games that will pit local celebrities against each other.

“The AARP Pickleball Classic is a social event where everyone wins, not just one team,” Holm said.

All players must register by Nov. 19 or before the 220-player cap is reached. Registration is $10 for AARP members and $25 for nonmembers.
