Today, AARP South Carolina cancelled its previously announced 5th congressional district candidate forum set for Monday, June 12, 2017 at Winthrop University. The live event was to be broadcast live on WRHI radio. Unfortunately, AARP was informed by Ralph Norman’s campaign that he was unable to make the event. According to AARP’s previously-established qualification criteria, only one remaining candidate, Archie Parnell, was eligible for participation. Rather than host a single-candidate forum in contravention of its non-partisan approach to voter education, AARP elected to cancel the event.

As a sponsor of the South Carolina State Senior Sports Classic, the AARP state office is encouraging active lifestyles for the 50-plus crowd. More than 30 events for athletes 50 and older will take place May 16-20 on the campus of Francis Marion University in Florence—the only South Carolina site for the National Senior Games Association, a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee.
On Friday, September 23, AARP South Carolina, the Veteran’s Welcome Home and Resource Center, and and Military Officers Association of American will host the 3rd annual Myrtle Beach Stand Down for Homeless Veterans event from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the U.S. Army Reserve Building, 3392 Phillis Blvd.
