On Thursday, Sept. 20, AARP Vermont and AARP Massachusetts will cosponsor a Scam Jam to help consumers in both states learn how to guard against fraud.

Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan (D) and law enforcement officials from both states will discuss bogus investment deals, phone calls from impostor grandchildren, lottery scams and other ploys. The best prevention, experts say, is to become aware of how scams work so you can recognize them and avoid the traps.

The free Scam Jam will be Sept. 20, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Williams Inn, 1090 Main St., in Williamstown, Mass. Lunch will be served, and reservations are required. To sign up, go to aarp.cvent.com/ScamJamWilliamstown.
