Chavez has paved the way for individuals today to advocate for equitable wages and safe working conditions. In recognition of this legacy, former president Barack Obama mandated in 2014 that all fifty states honor Chavez’s legacy by observing a national holiday each year.

AARP Colorado recognizes the contributions of the late Cesar Chavez with its sponsorship of a celebration and parade in his memory to be held March 28, 2015. The march will commence at Regis University at 10 a.m. and end in celebration at Cesar Chavez Park on West 41st Avenue at Tennyson Street in Denver. We're proud to host three free screenings of the new film Cesar Chavez on March 27, 28, and 29 in Los Angeles, Whittier, and South Gate. The movie, directed by Diego Luna, is a cinematic portrait of the well-known union and civil rights leader. Admission is free, but space is limited and RSVPs are required.

AARP is sponsoring a free screening of the new film “Cesar Chavez” on Friday, March 28 at 6:30 at the Megaplex 15 in West Valley City.  This powerful new film presents a powerful cinematic portrait of the famed civil rights leader and labor organizer.  This is an English language film.

Cesar Chavez Day has been an official holiday of the city and county of Denver since 2002. This year's holiday will be observed Saturday, March 29, with a 10:00 a.m. parade from Regis University to Cesar Chavez Park at Tennyson Street and West 41st Avenue, where a celebration will be held starting at 11:00 a.m.  AARP Colorado is sponsoring the 2014 celebration, participating in the parade and will have a booth at the park.  Join us in this celebration of Cesar Chavez's legacy!  For more information on the parade and celebration call Roberto Rey at the AARP Colorado state office at 303-318-6763.
