Avoid holiday scams this season
The holiday season is a busy time for everyone, including scammers! That is why it is critical we stay ahead of them to make sure consumers of all ages are aware of which scams are being perpetrated and how to avoid them. Please read and share the attached AARP Foundation ElderWatch Smart Tips on avoiding holiday scams. The Colorado Attorney General’s office also offers an excellent booklet on holiday scams.

The threat of elder abuse is daunting for the 40 million family caregivers who help their parents and spouses live independently at home. Some of these family caregivers provide 24/7 care. These individuals may also help with finances, transportation, medication management and more. Others may count on the support of paid aides to help.

St. Paul -  Members of the Consumer Workgroup on Elder Abuse commend the Office of Legislative Auditor’s (OLA) report on the Office of Health Facility Complaints (OHFC). The report brings needed transparency and accountability to a department that has been plagued by an inability to investigate elder abuse complaints in a timely manner.
