This spring has been a busy time for AARP Pennsylvania staff and volunteers across the Commonwealth. As the weather warmed up, so did activities in York. In addition to carrying on our community service work through volunteers, AARP has continued its partnership with key stakeholders on initiatives to ensure that York is a vibrant and enjoyable community for all. AARP has also been active on caregiver issues and fraud prevention. Here’s just a sample of what AARP has been up to in York:
Learn how to not be a victim of fraud at a May 26th Fraud Awareness Forum in Ward 7 at the Washington Senior Wellness Center. The event, which is organized by AARP's Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE), also includes a drive-through FREE shredding of your documents. AARP DC is one of the event partners along with LCE's Senior Medicare Patrol, and AARP's Fraud Watch Network. Presenting Corporate Sponsor is City First Bank of DC. Presenting Media Sponsors are ABC7 and News Channel 8. #AARPCapRegion
As part of the fight against fraud and identity theft, AARP Idaho’s 2016 Shred Fest certainly proved its worth. AARP members descended on City Hall West in Boise to shred personal financial documents and other sensitive records. Before the event began, over 30 cars lined up to be the first in line. Over the next three hours, more than 500 cars pulled through delivering 800 boxes to be shredded. In total, AARP’s 2016 Shred Fest in Boise destroyed 16,000 pounds of documents.
