The Colorado Alliance of Latino Mentors & Authors (CALMA) will host a “Words of Love”  event on February 11, 2021, at 7 p.m. Live on CALMA Colorado Facebook page and later available on YouTube – La Gente Legacy, FB, and the website, along with other past CALMA events.
As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in this year of heightened awareness around equality and social justice, we are reminded of how positive change happens only when someone decides to lead.  We are reminded of those men and women who, often in the face of great obstacles, dedicated their lives to serving something bigger than themselves, inspiring others and giving us all a path to a better tomorrow.

On Sunday, September 14th, more than 225 people from the Washington, DC Hispanic community took in sports, wellness and community information during the DC Continental Soccer League quarter-final soccer games held at the Cardozo Education Campus athletic field. The full-day event kicked off a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration for AARP members and their families. This was the second time AARP DC sponsored an event with Fossalex, a nonprofit organization that provides resources and support focused on financial security, health and wellness for Latino families in the District. Fossalex and the DC Continental Soccer League organize several sports events in DC to bring together Latino families throughout the year.

My mom is a chatty gal. I've known this all my life, but it never ceases to amaze me that she doesn't let language barriers get in the way of a good conversation. When I take her to her appointments she loves to chat with the nurses that take care of her before the doctor sees her.
