The Iowa State Fair in Des Moines is the largest event in the state and one of the oldest agricultural and industrial expositions in the country. AARP Iowa will be in the middle of the action for the fair’s duration, Aug. 9-19, with an interactive booth in the Varied Industries Building, where attendees can find the latest information on issues impacting the 50+, including Medicare and Social Security, and can take the pledge to vote in the upcoming mid-term election.

Aug. 14, 2017 is Veteran's Day at the AARP booth at the Iowa State Fair! Veterans are invited to visit our booth and pinpoint where they served on our map. We will also be giving Veterans special AARP Challenge Coins to express our gratitude for their service.

Aug. 14, 2015 is the 80th anniversary of the signing of Social Security into law in 1935. To mark the occasion, AARP Iowa is hosting a State Fair-themed Social Security celebration tent open from 10 am to 7 pm with games, prizes, birthday cake and cake-on-stick at the Iowa State Fair.
As the 2016 presidential campaign season heats up in the state with the first-in-the-nation caucuses, AARP is engaging candidates and voters in discussions on how to strengthen Social Security.
As Social Security celebrates its 78th anniversary, AARP Iowa has been traveling the state, hosting teletown hall conversations, leading community meetings and engaging with thousands of Iowans at the Iowa State Fair to hear firsthand what Iowans think about Social Security, especially in light of the budget deficit discussions in Congress.
The legendary Iowa State Fair - version 2013 - is underway and already hundreds of fairgoers have stopped by our booth to say "Hi," get the latest AARP information, fill out a "thought bubble" on their ideas about Social Security and Medicare, and take home our free gift.
