AARP wants you to take a hike—but in a good way.

To celebrate National Take a Hike Day, AARP Arizona, in partnership with the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department, is offering free day-use admission on Saturday, Nov. 17, to each of the county’s nine regional parks, said department spokeswoman Dawna Taylor.

The goal is to encourage people to be active, said Paula Wright, AARP Arizona outreach director.

Not a regular hiker? Wear sturdy, comfortable shoes, bring water and snacks, stay on marked trails, don’t disturb plants or wildlife, and respect private property.

Taylor said National Take a Hike Day also marks the grand opening of the county’s 315-mile trail system linking all of the regional parks.

An inaugural ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Cave Creek Regional Park Nature Center, 37900 E. Cave Creek Parkway.

Enjoy free admission to other trails on Take a Hike Day, including those at the Adobe Dam, Lake Pleasant and White Tank Mountain regional parks.
