Tax Credit for Accessible Home Purchase, Update

Living with a disability is a challenge more than 950,000 Virginians face.

AARP Virginia reminds Old Dominion residents tax relief is available to acquire or rehabilitate homes to make them more compatible for aging in place.

Under the Virginia Livable Home Tax Credit program, residents can get a tax credit of as much as $5,000 to purchase an accessible home or up to half the cost of retrofitting an existing residence, with a $5,000 cap.

Eligible features include zero-step entrances, hallways at least 36 inches wide and doors at least 32 inches, and accessible baths and kitchens.
