With Election Day just weeks away on November 4, AARP Utah has published nonpartisan  voters' guides on where candidates stand on critical issues such as caregiving, Social Security, Medicare, and financial security.  These guides are available for anyone to view at www.aarp.org/yourvote.

"AARP wants to offer real possibilities for voters to become engaged in the electoral process," said AARP Utah State Director Alan Ormsby. "We think it's important to offer nonpartisan guides that help voters determine where the candidates stand on issues of importance to them as they prepare to vote on Election Day."

For consistency with the congressional races across the country, AARP asked candidates in these races the same three questions as follows:

  • How would you protect Social Security for today's seniors and strengthen it for future generations?
  • How would you put Medicare on stronger financial ground and protect today's seniors and future retirees from the burden of rising health costs?
  • How would you help Americans save so they can secure their future and live independently as they age?

AARP's public policy positions related to these questions are provided alongside the responses from the candidates--sometimes gleaned from campaign materials--so that voters can evaluate where the candidates stand on key issues of importance to people 50+.   Voters will be asked to enter their address to get responses from the candidates running in their district for the U.S. House of Representatives;  some voters will also receive information from targeted races for the Utah legislature.  Candidates running for Utah state positions were asked about providing affordable, quality coverage to low-income uninsured Utahns, how to provide help and training for caregivers, and how to help Utahns have a secure financial future in the face of shrinking or non-existent pensions.

Visitors to www.aarp.org/yourvote can also find information about how to register and where to vote.  Voter guides can also be found by doing a state search.

AARP is a non-partisan organization and does not endorse any candidates.
