Caregiving Conferences Coming Up in November

Utahns will have the opportunity to attend caregiving conferences in Orem and Ogden in November.  On Saturday, November 7 from 10:00 am--2:30 pm the Mountainland Area Agency on Aging will hold its 10th Annual Caregiver Conference at the Orem Friendship Center.  Admission is free and includes a light breakfast and lunch, as well as a keynote presentation on Understanding Alzheimer's and sessions on community resources, confessions of a hospice nurse, and finding joy in being a caregiver.  Registration is free but seating is limited; to register all 801-229-3804 or e-mail carepartner@mountainland.org.  Aspen Senior Care will provide complimentary respite care on site--contact Susan Johnson at 801-420-5167.  For care in your home contact Geri Lehnardt at Mountainland Aging and Family Services at 801-229-3814.  The Orem Friendship Center is at 93 North 400 East, Orem UT  84097.

Ogden Interfaith Works Council will present its conference, "Aging in Northern Utah:  Resources and Tools for Those Who are Aging and Caring" on Saturday, November 14 from 9:30 am--3:30 pm at HUB 801, 3525 Riverdale Road, Ogden, UT  84405.    

 This is an event chockful of useful information about aging, caring for those who are aging and caring for the caregivers. Five CEU credits are available, including two ethics credits. Lunch and breakfast will be served.  Registration is $10, and you can advance register by calling 801-392-5012. Volunteers who work a two-hour shift may attend the whole conference for free, including breakfast and lunch.  Breakout session topics include advance directives, grandfamilies, veterans benefits, LGBT and aging, adult protective services, and presentations from the Parkinson's Association, Alzheimer's Association, and Weber Area Agency on Aging.  Keynote speakers will round out the program.













AARP provides information for caregivers at our www.iheartcaregivers.org  website, which offers resources and invites caregivers to share their story.  AARP is fighting for workplace protections, help at home, and training for caregivers, and stories are the perfect way to illustrate the need for these improvements.  Find tools and materials that you need, as well as ways to connect to other caregivers at org.caregiver.
