Dementia doesn't come with an instruction manual, but the Alzheimer's Association has a series of events during Making Sense of Alzheimer's Month that can help!  On Tuesday, May 3, they will be holding an Education Conference in Park City with topics  that include effective communications strategies, understanding and responding to dementia-related behaviors, and available community resources and services.

The conference is designed specifically for the education of caregivers of those with dementia, with presentations by the Alzheimer's Association, AARP Utah, and the Mountainland Association of Governments.  The conference cost is $10, and attendees will be provided with learning materials.  This conference will also be held in St. George on Monday, May 23, with presentations by the Alzheimer's Association, AARP Utah, and the Five County Association of Governments.

Connecting with the arts is an important way for people to experience an appreciation for beauty in their surroundings.  This "Making Sense of Alzheimer's" conference will be held on Tuesday, May 17 in Salt Lake City and will focus on locals arts programs designed to help family caregivers explore how sensory experiences can provide meaning, joy, and connection to people living with dementia.  Caregivers will leave inspired and equipped with creative tools and techniques to implement at home.  The cost is $10.
