AARP Virginia speakers are ready, willing, and eager to give free presentations to community groups across the state about the Affordable Care Act and the Health Insurance Marketplace. The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, means better coverage for those who already have health insurance, and more options for those who don’t, including a new way to shop for affordable, high-quality coverage. AARP wants to ensure that Americans 50+ understand what Obamacare means for them and their families. There is a lot to learn about the health care law, how it impacts Medicare, as well as new coverage options in Virginia.

Each year, billions of American taxpayers’ dollars are wasted on improper payments to individuals, organizations and contractors. These are payments made in the wrong amounts, to the wrong person, or for the wrong reason. In 2009, improper payments totaled $98 billion, with $54 billion stemming from Medicare and Medicaid.  (SOURCE: The White House, Office of the Press Secretary, March 10, 2010)
