AARP volunteers plan an integral role in making sure our events are successful and engaging.
Hepp, Joy M

As we focus throughout the month of July on empowering those in need, we are also shining a light on volunteer opportunities right here in California.

Public service and volunteering represent the core of AARP’s mission, as set forth by our founder, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, who challenged us “to serve, not to be served.”

With more than 5,500 volunteers across California, AARP represents the voice of our members, their families, and their communities with elected officials, influencers, and opinion leaders.

These volunteers and their work are the foundation of our success.

Today, we need YOUR know-how and enthusiasm more than ever to help us achieve the goals AARP members care about most—health and financial security, long-term care planning, aging in place, safer and stronger communities, and many more. Consider sharing your lifetime of experience by volunteering your time, talent, and expertise to make a difference with AARP.

Here is how you can get involved:

Community Events and Outreach

  • Staffing a community event to share information about AARP
  • Gathering signatures to join our Fraud Watch Network and other areas of priority
  • Distributing information to the community about our campaigns/initiatives
  • Assisting at AARP events (planning, registration, guiding attendees, greeting, set-up, staffing information tables, etc.)

Public Education

  • Speaking before various groups on AARP issues such as livable communities, fraud, health, finances, etc.
  • Helping to educate members and volunteers on AARP issues

Legislative advocacy

  • Calling, emailing, or sending letters to elected officials on AARP campaigns/issues
  • Joining with fellow AARP volunteers to make visits to state and federal elected officials to be the voice of our members and share our positions on legislation and publicpolicy
  • Policy analysis and research

E-Activists

  • Signing up for email action alerts so that you can quickly contact elected officials on legislation that impacts AARP members
  • “Liking” us on Facebook (facebook.com/AARPCalifornia) and following us on Twitter (www.twitter.com/AARPCA) to stay informed about our events and activities
  • Sharing our information with your email and social media network of friends and family
