Walk for your Health in May

Manchester’s Parks and Recreation Department has released the spring dates for 2018’s “ Walk for your Health” program.  This walking group is open to people of all ages who want to get out in the fresh air, exercise and meet new friends!

This spring series will run from Monday, April 17 through Friday, June 22, with walks taking place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9:00 AM at a variety of locations.

AARP will be present at the first walk of each month, handing out treats and providing information on local programs and events!

Here are more details on the May dates:

Wednesday, May 2 – Stark Park
AARP will be present!
Parking: Inside Stark Park near Gazebo (not on the grass)
Start:  River Road heading north towards SNHU, mostly on sidewalks, but this trail is one big hill

Friday, May 4 – Cullerot Park
Parking:  West Little League parking lot, 430 Youville St, Manchester
Start: From parking lot on side streets, mostly with sidewalks, to Mount Calvary Cemetery

Monday, May 7 – Massabesic Ball Park
Parking: The ballpark parking lot, Londonderry Turnpike across the street from lake.
Start: From parking lot onto Rockingham Recreational Trail on a wooded trail, flat and partly paved.

Wednesday, May 9 Memorial High School
Parking and Start: Clem Lemire Field

Friday, May 11 – Pine Grove Cemetery
Parking:  Our Lady of Cedars Church Parking Lot, 140 Mitchell Street, Manchester. Park away from the building at the outer edge of the lot
Start:  Parking Lot for a short distance on a sidewalk to the entrance of the cemetery

Monday, May 14 – Lake Massabesic
Parking: Lake parking lot, 16 Londonderry Turnpike, Auburn
Start: From parking lot east onto Rockingham Recreational Trail on a wooded, flat trail.  

Wednesday, May 16 – Cullerot Park
Parking:  West Little League parking lot, 430 Youville St, Manchester
Start: From parking lot on side streets, mostly with sidewalks, to Mount Calvary Cemetery  

Friday, May 18 – River Walk
Parking:  Parking lot directly across from Second St Laundromat
Start:  Parking lot up a flight of stairs to access Rails to Trail, which is paved with some small hills.  The trail will end and the walk will continue on the streets for a short distance in a quiet neighborhood.  

Monday, May 21 – West Side Ice Arena
Parking: West Side Ice Arena, 1 Electric St, Manchester
Start: In parking lot on partly paved and flat course with great views along the river

Wednesday, May 23 – Nutts Pond
Parking:  Manchester Commons Shopping, 375 South Willow St, Manchester.  Park on the side of old Shaws
Start:  From parking lot onto paved Rails to Trail in a wooded area on mostly even ground

Friday, May 25 – Massabesic Ball Park
Parking: The ballpark parking lot, Londonderry Turnpike across the street from lake.
Start: From parking lot onto Rockingham Recreational Trail on a wooded trail, flat and partly paved.

Monday, May 28 – Camp Carpenter
Parking: Camp Carpenter parking lot
Start: 300 Blondin Road, Manchester, NH 03109 on a wooded trail around a pond.  This trail is shaded with small hills.

Wednesday, May 30 – Brookside Church
Parking: On-street parking in front of Brookside Church (cannot use their parking lot)
Start: 2013 Elm St, Manchester. The walk will use sidewalks until you reach Stark Park; where the trail is mostly even with some inclines within the park.

Participants are welcome to walk as far as their comfort level takes them.  But don’t forget to fill out your mile sheet weekly, because every mile walked enters one raffle ticket into the end of year raffle drawings!

Remember to wear firm, comfortable footwear and loose clothing.  There will be a one-time $3.00 registration fee to help defray some of the program expenses.  In case of inclement weather, walks will be held at the Mall of New Hampshire.
