Looking for a way to get involved and meet new people?

AARP California has launched the first recruitment drive in Los Angeles County for its newly created Community Action Teams—groups of volunteers who will help at events, as part of the Community Events Team, and give presentations, as part of the Community Education Team.

The organization is seeking people who want to put their skills and passion to work and help others.

“Build and inspire your community while having fun!” said Nancy McPherson, AARP California state director. “The new community teams offer many ways to get involved.”

Events Team volunteers provide support at community functions, and those on the Education Team give presentations to small groups on topics such as simple home repairs to make residences safer for aging in place and job searching in the digital age.

Team members will receive training and need to commit to just a few hours per month. To participate, you must live in Los Angeles County, have access to a computer and email, and be able to travel locally.

Bilingual members are needed and encouraged to join.

To volunteer, email cavolunteer@aarp.org or call 626-585-2612 and leave your name, phone number and email.
