Winfield High School's Isaac Withrow Named AARP WV/MetroNews Scholar Athlete of the Week

Isaac Withrow of Winfield High School has been selected as the AARP West Virginia/MetroNews Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of November 22.

A senior, Isaac is an AP Honors student with a 4.28 g.p.a. He holds several student leadership positions, serving as National Honor Society treasurer, Mu Alpha Theta mathematics honor society president, and Student Council officer. Isaac also participates in the Key Club, FUEL Bible Club, and Link Crew. Isaac is a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, and a recipient of The College Board’s Advanced Placement Rising Scholars Award. He is the son of Clint and Angie Withrow of Scott Depot.

Isaac is a four-year starter and two-year captain for Coach Craig Snyder’s Generals football team where he plays linebacker, running back, fullback, and tight end. He has twice earned All-State Honorable Mention honors and was a Mountain State Athletic Conference All-Conference performer in 2014. Additionally, Isaac garnered All-Kanawha Valley honors in 2013 and was voted his squad’s Defensive MVP in 2014.

On a volunteer level, Isaac has participated in faith-based mission work with Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church on hunger and housing-related mission projects and worked with children on the Hopi Indian Reservation in Arizona. In his community, Isaac has served as a volunteer with Winfield’s youth sports programs and Operation Christmas Child, which sends toys, school supplies, personal items, and other small gifts overseas to children in need. Isaac and his Winfield football teammates have also provided support for the Charleston Area Medical Center Cancer Center through the collection of items for donation to its pediatric unit.

Following graduation, Isaac plans to pursue a degree in finance and analytical math. He hopes to continue his football career at the college level, currently holding a scholarship offer to Davidson College with interest from several Patriot and Ivy League universities.

West Virginia student athletes in Grades 11 and 12 with a minimum 3.0 grade point average are eligible for the AARP West Virginia Scholar Athlete of the Week award. Nominees should excel in one or more athletic program, and be active within their community through service and community involvement. Nominations for the 2015 Scholar Athlete program have closed.
