Family Caregivers: Check Our Resources

Caregivers photo

November is National Family Caregivers Month, and AARP West Virginia is working to ease the burden on caregivers in Charleston and other communities across the state.

A recent survey of Charleston caregivers found 4 in 10 have been providing care for at least five years, and more than half also work full- or part-time. Almost all handle tasks such as providing transportation and preparing meals, and nearly two-thirds perform medical or nursing tasks. About 40 percent are caring for someone with cognitive decline.

Many caregivers said they need help but don’t know where to turn. AARP is working to close that gap. For information, go to aarp.org/caregiving.
