Wish of a Lifetime from AARP’s 10th Annual Cupid Crew Underway to Combat Social Isolation

To help lessen the impact of social isolation on Valentine’s Day, Wish of a Lifetime from AARP’s 10th annual Cupid Crew and AARP Hawai`i will hand deliver about 6,400 roses and more than 800 hand-made Valentine’s Day cards to kupuna on Oahu, Maui and Hawai`i island. It’s part of a national effort to deliver more than 100,000 roses and nearly 250,000 cards to fight social isolation.

Since the pandemic's start, many older Americans have become more isolated, missing out on chances to connect with their communities and passions in life. With Cupid Crew, Wish of a Lifetime is empowering communities nationwide to help isolated older adults feel more connected and love.

“For a decade, Cupid Crew has uplifted and spread love to more than half a million older adults at risk of social isolation on a holiday that is all about community and appreciating those who shine a light in your life,” said Tom Wagenlander, vice president and executive director, Wish of a Lifetime from AARP.

“Our volunteers and community partners are excited to participate in this effort to bring love and social connection to kupuna in nursing homes, care homes and living on their own,” said Keali`i Lopez, AARP Hawai`i state director. “To download and create your own cards to send to an older adult go to wishofalifetime.org/cupid and learn more.”

“It’s been a pleasure to join the many AARP volunteers in the state of Hawaii along with our partners from Wish of a Lifetime to bring this event to our kupunas for Valentine’s Day,” said AARP Hawai`i volunteer Gary Hanagami. “We hope they enjoy the cards and roses as much as we enjoyed doing this.”
