AARP Indiana announces 2023 Caregiver Weeklies series

Caregiver Weeklies


In honor of National Family Caregivers Month 2023, AARP Indiana is hosting Caregiver Weeklies, a virtual event series that spans each week in November. AARP Indiana staff and volunteers will chat with experts in the caregiving field from communities across the state. Viewers will have the opportunity to ask questions live, and all sessions will be streamed via Zoom.

Week 1: Wednesday, November 1st at 3:00 p.m. ET – Estate Planning & Elder Law
Week 2: Wednesday, November 8th at 3:00 p.m. ET – Area Agencies on Aging
Week 3: Wednesday, November 15th at 3:00 p.m. ET – AARP Prepare to Care Guide
Week 4: Wednesday, November 22nd at 3:00 p.m. ET – AARP HomeFit
Week 5: Monday, November 27th at 3:00 p.m. ET – Long-Term Care Updates & Resources

Week 1: Elder Law

In the first week the Caregiver Weeklies 2023 event series, AARP Indiana staff and volunteers will host an Indiana-based Estate Planning and Elder Law Attorney to present several important legal aspects of being a caregiver. Key topics include asset protection, estate planning, Medicaid benefits, and more.

Week 2: Area Agencies on Aging

In the second edition of Caregiver Weeklies, audience members will hear from a representative from one of Indiana’s 16 regional Area Agencies on Aging on the services and resources offered through these direct service providers. Key topics include case management, information and referrals to various services for persons who are aging or have developmental disabilities, and more.

Week 3: AARP Prepare to Care Guide

Viewers will learn about the popular Prepare to Care Guide from AARP Indiana staff and volunteers. The Prepare to Care Guide is designed to help develop and implement a caregiving plan for a loved one or friend. Key topics include:

  • How to approach vital, yet difficult conversations
  • Strategies for assessing your loved one's needs
  • Tips for organizing important documents
  • A list of federal and national resources
  • Information on caring for yourself
  • Practical tools, such as checklists, medication charts, and contact lists

Week 4: AARP HomeFit

AARP Indiana empowers people to live as they choose as they age. A key part of delivering on our mission includes the availability of housing options that support different life stages. The AARP HomeFit program presents best practices for home accessibility modifications and safety, from quick, DIY fixes to those that require professionals.

Week 5: Long-Term Care Updates & Resources
WATCH RECORDING
The final Caregiver Weeklies event of 2023 will discuss updates related to long-term care in Indiana. AARP Indiana will host the State of Indiana’s Division on Aging to discuss the upcoming transition to a managed care system for Medicaid-eligible populations, as well as discuss AARP’s recently released Long-Term Care scorecard and what it means for the state of care in Indiana.
