AARP Indiana names Fort Wayne's Linda Dunno State President

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – AARP Indiana has named long-time volunteer leader and former public safety administrator Linda Dunno as its State President.

State President is AARP Indiana’s top volunteer leadership position. As State President, Dunno will lead the team’s volunteer Executive Council, act as a spokesperson, assist in volunteer and community engagement, and much more.

“We’re thrilled to have Linda take on the role of State President,” AARP Indiana State Director Sarah Waddle said. “Linda’s skills as a community organizer, motivator, and advocate for Hoosiers that are 50+ will take us to the next level.

“Time and again, Linda has proven herself as a top-tier expert and advocate that can navigate new challenges and initiatives thoughtfully and effectively. She will be a booster for our dedicated volunteers, and we look forward to her leadership and support.”

Dunno led AARP Indiana’s Fort Wayne team for six years and received the organization’s top volunteer honor, the Andrus Award for Community Service, in 2016. During Dunno’s tenure, the City of Fort Wayne joined the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities, a feat made possible by her tireless advocacy and community-organizing prowess.

Prior to retiring, Dunno employed her considerable leadership acumen as a 9-1-1 emergency services director in Ohio and then Maine. She also was the executive director of the Van Wert Area Chamber of Commerce, making an impact in the communities of Northwest Ohio.

“I’m excited to take on this new role and responsibility with AARP Indiana,” Dunno said. “The 50+ and their communities face new challenges every day, and I hope to help our team of volunteers and staff face these challenges head on.”

Dunno is a past member of the National Emergency Number Association, Association of the Public-Safety Communications Officials, American Business Women’s Association and Rotary International and a current Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Life Member.

Dunno’s first term as State President begins January 1, 2021.
