AARP Indiana Recognizes Denise Porter-Ross for her Dedication and Commitment to Community Service with its Most Prestigious Volunteer Award

Indianapolis, Indiana – Denise Porter-Ross has been selected by AARP, the nonprofit organization for people 50 and older, to receive the 2022 AARP Indiana Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.

AARP Indiana selected Porter-Ross for her remarkable service, which has greatly benefited her community, reflected AARP’s vision and mission, and inspired other volunteers.

Porter-Ross has long served on AARP Indiana’s Fort Wayne community team. She has encyclopedic knowledge of social services in the area, helping all who need to be connected to resources. Porter-Ross is also a member of the City of Fort Wayne’s Age-Friendly committee, working diligently to ensure that the community is welcoming to people of all ages.

The award was formally presented to Porter-Ross at a ceremony during AARP Indiana’s annual volunteer gathering in October.

“This award acts as a symbol to the public that we can all work together for positive social change,” Sarah Waddle, AARP Indiana State Director, said. “AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions volunteers make to their communities, neighbors, and the programs they serve.”

Recipients across the nation were chosen for their ability to enhance the lives of AARP members and prospective members, improve the community in or for which the work was performed, and inspire others to volunteer.
