While the coronavirus pandemic continues to prove a challenge for Hoosiers, AARP Indiana strives to provide access to elected officials and crucial information to anyone who wants to learn.

AARP Indiana hosted two telephone town halls in August, featuring state and federal officials.

“In the face of the global coronavirus pandemic, AARP is providing information and resources to help older adults, and those caring for them, protect themselves and prevent the spread of the coronavirus,” State Director Sarah Waddle said in an August 5 telephone town hall.

U.S. Senator Mike Braun joined AARP Indiana to talk about federal legislation and COVID-19-related deaths in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities on August 6.

Representing the State, Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch, Family and Social Services Administration Secretary Dr. Jennifer Sullivan, and Indiana’s Broadband Office Director Scott Rudd, talked COVID-19, access to broadband Internet, and telemedicine on August 5.

“Our living room has become since the pandemic, a classroom, a business front, a doctor’s office, a church, a shopping mall, a child care and more,” Rudd said. “And telehealth could be considered, as some have said, the modern version of the doctor’s house visit… if you think about telemedicine that way, it becomes actually something that that’s very familiar to many of us.”

If you missed either of these telephone town halls, it is easy to catch up. Both are posted to AARP Indiana’s Facebook page.

You can also go directly to a recording of the town hall with Senator Braun, as well as directly to the recording of Lieutenant Governor Crouch, Dr. Sullivan, and Director Rudd.

Stay on the lookout for more of these town hall opportunities as we head into the fall.
