Fishers’ Tish Biggs Receives 2019 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service

Patricia “Tish” Biggs, PhD, of Fishers has been selected by AARP Indiana to receive the 2019 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service. This award, which is named after AARP’s founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, is AARP’s most prestigious volunteer tribute that recognizes outstanding individuals who are sharing their experience, talents and skills to enrich the lives of others. Biggs was presented with the award at AARP Indiana’s annual volunteer celebration in Plainfield earlier this fall (picture attached).

“Tish has contributed amazing energy, positivity, and communication skills to AARP Indiana since her first day with the team,” said AARP Indiana State Director Sarah Waddle. “She is a champion for her community and for all Hoosiers through her volunteerism on our Legislative Team.”

Biggs has been an AARP Indiana volunteer for more than five years. During that time, she has been a crucial member of the Legislative Team, a group of volunteers that represent Hoosiers age 50+ by advocating for positive change at the statehouse. Biggs also became AARP Indiana’s champion for the Fishers community in 2018, helping guide community engagement and planning efforts as the City of Fishers continues work as part of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities.

“I feel humbled and honored to be in the company of those who previously won the Andrus Award,” Biggs said. “Facilitating the success of others is my personal mission, and AARP always works to assist seniors to live more productive lives – therefore, a perfect match for my volunteer efforts.”

Biggs’ career is marked by leadership in her community, and she has worn many hats. Biggs has held executive positions with Time Warner Cable, served as an educator at the university level, and was a councilwoman for the City of Norton, OH. She holds a PhD in Educational/Instructional Technology from Kent State University.
