With the May 7 deadline to get your Real ID fast approaching, be sure you don't fall victim to a scam!

The deadline to have your Real ID - an enhanced driver's license or state ID card - is May 7, 2025. You will need this card to board any domestic flights after this date. The process to get a Real ID is just like a normal driver's license but they will now include an encoded "machine readable zone" with a person's scannable information.

Scammers may try to take advantage of those trying to get their Real ID close to the deadline. Most of the scams will probably be phishing scams: emails, texts or calls that appear to be from a legitimate source, such as your state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or the federal Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

You can read about the six tips for avoiding a Real ID scam here.
