This past summer the Indiana General Assembly gathered for a special session where they approved a $200 taxpayer refund. This refund was in addition to the $125 automatic taxpayer refund that Hoosiers received earlier this year.
Indiana residents who qualified for the $125 taxpayer refund will automatically receive the one-time $200 payment. Those who did not qualify for the $125 refund could still be eligible for the $200 payment.
Individuals who receive Social Security and don’t normally earn enough to file taxes may still receive the $200 refund, but they will need to file a 2022 tax return next year. Taxpayers who don’t owe anything will receive a $200 tax refund. If someone does owe taxes, the $200 will go toward the balance due.
To qualify, lower-income taxpayers must have received Social Security benefits in calendar year 2022 and must not be claimed as a dependent on a 2022 Indiana income tax return.
