Older Hoosiers May Qualify for Taxpayer Refund

Money

Older Hoosiers could receive financial help after state lawmakers approved a $200 taxpayer refund.

Indiana residents who qualified for the $125 taxpayer refund earlier this year will automatically receive the onetime $200 payment. Those who did not qualify for the $125 refund could still be eligible for the $200 payment.

Individuals who receive Social Security and don’t normally earn enough to file taxes may still receive the $200, but they must file a 2022 tax return next year and claim the $200 as a tax credit. Those who don’t owe taxes will receive the $200 refund. If someone does owe taxes, the $200 will go toward the balance due.

To qualify, lower-income taxpayers must have received Social Security benefits in calendar year 2022 and must not be claimed as a dependent on a 2022 Indiana income tax return. Learn more at the Indiana Department of Revenue website
