Indiana Michigan Power (I&M)
In May 2024, the IURC approved the rate agreement between Indiana Michigan Power, the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) and other intervening parties. The order approving the agreement will:
- Lower I&M's requested increase from $116.4 million to $61.8 million.
- Increase the customer charge slightly to $15 from $14.79 a month. I&M had requested an increase to $17.50 a month and was something that AARP Indiana opposed.
- Waive late fees once every 6-month period for households who participate in the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
NIPSCO Gas
In August 2024, the IURC approved the rate agreement between NIPSCO Gas, the OUCC, and the intervening parties. The order approving the agreement will:
- Cut NIPSCO’s increase request from 10% to 7%. This means customers will see an increase of around $5 per month instead of $8.
- Keep the customer charge at$16.50 per month. NIPSCO had requested that the charge increase to $22.50.
- The increase will take effect in two phases with the first starting in August 2024 and the second by March 1, 2025.
NIPSCO Electric
- The IURC approved a 16.75% electricity rate hike for NIPSCO customers. That’s about $23 more per month for the average household in June of 2025.
- It will keep the monthly $14.00 residential customer charge at its current level. The IURC’d final order reduces the utility's request by $111 million.
AES Case
In April 2024, the IURC approved the rate agreement between AES, the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC), and the intervening parties. The order approving the agreement will:
- Increase the utility's total annual revenues by approximately $71 million. Their initial request would have increased annual revenues by approximately $134.2 million.
- Raise monthly rates by $9.36 for the average residential customer. That’s less than AES' initial proposal which would have raised rates by about $17 a month.
- AES will also hold the fixed charge for residential bills at $17 a month, instead of increasing it to $25 for most residential customers, as originally proposed.
