AARP Indiana plans to host more Caregiver Connections in 2024.

Late last month, AARP Indiana hosted its first Caregiver Connection, a new and engaging virtual event series for caregivers or anyone that just needs a break.

This first event, held via Zoom, featured a brief Prepare to Care presentation followed by an introductory Tai Chi class with Sifu Ron Weatherford.

Prepare to Care helps families plan for their caregiving journey, and AARP Fort Wayne Community Impact Team leader Jeff Hale presented the material.

More than 100 people – from the Hoosier State and beyond – joined the class.

“We had participants from coast to coast,” Director of Outreach Emily Gorman said. “It was amazing to see so many people gather from their own homes to receive excellent planning information, as well as relaxing exercise.

“Caregivers work incredibly hard to take care of friends and family, and no matter your situation, everyone deserves a breather.”

There are nearly 800,000 caregivers providing almost $10 billion in care throughout Indiana.

AARP Indiana plans to hold more Caregiver Connection events this year.
