Ride the Bus with AARP in Indianapolis!

Mass transit is a critical piece of the community puzzle in Indianapolis.  Reliable bus service means that your friends and neighbors can get to their jobs, that your parents and grandparents can get to doctor’s appointments and the grocery store,  and that members of the community can access shopping centers and businesses – all of which contributes to the economic strength of our city.  AARP fully supports the Marion County Transit Plan – a plan that will provide additional funding for the expansion of mass transit in Marion County.  Want to know more?  Come ride the bus with AARP!  Every Friday, AARP staff and volunteers meet at the Transit Center in Indianapolis to ride the bus and experience first-hand the challenges and opportunities that face bus riders in Indianapolis. We’d love for you to join us!

"As the State Legislative Director for AARP Indiana, my passion runs deep for issues that affect Hoosiers.  AARP is committed to ensuring that our communities are livable for people of all ages, and that includes having access to adequate transportation.

In order to fully understand the mass transit experience in Indianapolis, I decided to start riding the bus every Friday.  I wanted to experience first-hand what every day bus riders go through in order to better explain how the Marion County Transit Plan will help develop our city.  Along the way, I will be documenting the pros and cons of public transportation.

Some things I document will make you laugh.  (I didn’t realize the bus driver had to activate the payment kiosk.  I put my money in before it was in service.)  Other items will be more serious.  (Line 14 showed up twenty minutes early, but left almost ten minutes late.)

Trust me when I say that the current system definitely needs an upgrade!

This journey is not only for me, it’s for you too! Let’s work together to improve mass transit in our city. Come join me on the bus!"

What Does the Marion County Transit Plan mean for you?

  • Shorter wait times between buses
  • Longer service hours
  • Advanced payment technology
  • All routes operating 7 days a week
  • 3 rapid transit lines
