Staying on top of utility bills during the pandemic

While the Coronavirus pandemic had a wide-ranging impact on the state of Indiana, it has particularly left some of our most vulnerable friends, family, and neighbors facing potentially long-lasting financial troubles.

Hoosiers who have not been able to keep up with their utility bills were briefly sheltered by the State of Indiana’s moratorium on utility bill payments.

However, that moratorium expired on August 14, 2020.

Hoosiers 50+ are encouraged to contact their utility providers if they believe they are behind on making payments to avoid service shutoffs.

By contacting your utility company, customers will have the opportunity to set up payment/repayment plans to make good on their bills over time and avoid greater financial troubles in the future.

If you or your loved ones are behind on utility payments and would like to set up a payment/repayment plan, please contact your respective utility provider(s) by dialing the telephone numbers in the below listing/document. If your utility company is not listed below, please refer to the contact information listed on your most recent bill.

Utility Contact Information

You can also reach out to Indiana 211, a resource for you or anyone you know who may be in need of financial assistance to help pay utility bills or to address challenges in other basic needs, by dialing 211 or 866-211-9966 for additional information and resources.

The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor is an additional resource for Hoosiers and can be reached toll free at 1-888-441-2494. The OUCC represents utility consumer and ratepayer interests before various state and federal utility regulatory commissions and is a voice when decisions are made that could impact utility rates and services. Visit here for more information on the OUCC.

AARP Indiana will also host a brief virtual event presenting timely information on what Hoosiers need to know about paying their utility bills in this post-moratorium environment on October 20 at 1 p.m. Eastern via Facebook Live.
