Join us on Tuesday, May 21, from 4 to 5 p.m. ET, for a chat with Scott Shane, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and journalist, about his novel "Flee North: A Forgotten Hero and the Fight for Freedom in Slavery's Borderland."
The novel unveils the extraordinary story of Thomas Smallwood, a self-liberated abolitionist who led hundreds to freedom from slavery. Set in the 1840s, the self-educated shoemaker organized escapes while racing against slave traders. The narrative exposes the inhumanity of the era, offering insights into today's racial inequities.
