At AARP Maryland, we believe in honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans, active-duty military members, and their families—not just on Veterans Day, but every day. That’s why we’re proud to support Operation Green Light, a powerful public awareness campaign led by the National Association of Counties (NACo).

From November 4 to 11, 2025, we invite all Marylanders—residents, businesses, and community organizations—to participate by lighting up your exteriors green. Whether it’s a porch light, a window display, or your storefront signage, a green light is more than just a color—it’s a symbol of hope, gratitude, and support.

Why Green?

Green is universally associated with renewal and well-being. In the context of Operation Green Light, it sends a clear message to our veterans: You are seen. You are appreciated. You are supported.

Many veterans face unique challenges as they transition back to civilian life, including navigating health care, employment, and housing. By simply changing a light bulb, you can help raise awareness of these issues and show solidarity with those who have served.

How to Participate

  • Replace an exterior light with a green bulb—porch, window, driveway, or storefront.
  • Share your support on social media using hashtags like #OperationGreenLight and #AARPMarylandSupportsVets.
  • Encourage your neighbors and local businesses to join in and light up their spaces green.
  • Download the Operation Greenlight flier to display in your window and to share in the community.
  • Learn more about AARP's resources for veterans, military members and their families at aarp.org/veterans.

Our Commitment
AARP Maryland advocates for policies and programs that support veterans and their families. Operation Green Light aligns with our mission to uplift communities and ensure that no veteran feels forgotten or alone.

Let’s come together this November to shine a light of hope across Maryland. One green light at a time!
