AARP opposes energy deregulation bill

State-Capitol

AARP will testify in the House Energy and Technology Committee today in opposition to House Bill 5184, which deregulates the retail energy markets in Michigan.

AARP opposes this bill because we believe the legislation jeopardizes the affordability and reliability of home energy, said Melissa Seifert, AARP Michigan Associate State Director for Governmental Affairs.

A substantial percentage of AARP’s members live on a fixed or limited income. A major priority for AARP is to protect consumers from unaffordable expenses for essential energy services that may endanger their health and financial security, according to remarks prepared by Janee Briesemeister, Senior Legislative Representative from AARP's national Government Affairs team.
