AARP Michigan is proud to announce the 2025 recipients of its Michigan Age-Friendly Communities Grant Program, investing $10,000 to support projects that make communities across the state more livable for people of all ages.
This new grant program supports community-driven solutions that advance one or more of AARP’s Eight Domains of Livability: housing, transportation, outdoor spaces and buildings, social participation, respect and social inclusion, work and civic engagement, communication and information, and community and health services.
“We are proud to support communities across Michigan in building places where people of all ages can thrive,” said Ramón Harris, Associate State Director for Community Outreach at AARP Michigan. “These projects represent forward-thinking, practical solutions that will create lasting improvements, especially for older Michiganders.”
The grant recipients for 2025 include:
North End Wellness Coalition — Grand Rapids
Project: A Community Resilience Hub: Georgie’s Farm Market – Where Everyone Knows Your Name
The North End Wellness Coalition is bringing a vibrant indoor market to life in the Belknap and Creston neighborhoods. The market will not only offer healthy groceries but also integrate preventive health services, mental health support, financial literacy workshops, and cooking classes, connecting residents of all ages to essential resources.
Award: $4,000
City of River Rouge — River Rouge
Project: Seniors on the Go
This project will launch a transportation program to help older adults access grocery stores, doctor’s appointments, and other essential services. The initiative will help foster independence and improve quality of life for the city’s senior residents.
Award: $6,000
“Age-friendly communities are about creating opportunities for everyone to thrive,” said Harris. “We’re proud to support Michigan communities that are delivering solutions with an immediate and lasting impact.”
Launched in 2025, AARP Michigan’s Age-Friendly Communities Grant Program provides funding to nonprofits, local governments, tribal entities, and community organizations that are developing innovative projects to improve livability for residents of all ages.
