AUGUST


Wednesday, August 7  -  Lathrup Village Concert Series.  Join us for another day at the Lathrup Village Concert Series with featured artist, Thornetta Davis (Blues)! Admission is free, parking is free; be sure to bring your lawn chair.

Thursday, August 22  -  Veterans Benefits Event.
As a Senior Veteran or Surviving Spouse of a Senior Veteran, you may be entitled to certain earned VA benefits. Veterans, Spouses and Children are invited to a special workshop to learn about eligibility for Long Term Care Benefits to pay for Home Care, Assisted Living or Dementia Care. RSVP here.

Monday, August 26  -  Prescription Drug Community Conversation.
If you are worried about affording the medications your doctors prescribe, you are not alone. The price of brand named drugs continues to skyrocket, outpacing inflation by around 400 percent in recent years.
This is why AARP Michigan, State Representative Hank Vaupel, and other policy leaders in your community are hosting this conversation—to listen to YOU and discuss possible solutions for reducing the cost of prescription medications. Reserve your seat here.

Monday, August 26  -  AARP Michigan Free Movie Screening: SHAFT.
You are invited to a free screening of SHAFT starring Samuel L. Jackson, Jessie T. Usher, Regina Hall and Richard Roundtree, the original John Shaft!
John Shaft Jr. may be an FBI cyber security expert, but to uncover the truth behind his best friend's untimely death, he needs an education that only his dad can provide. Absent throughout his childhood, the legendary John Shaft agrees to help his son navigate the heroin-infested underbelly of Harlem, N.Y. Saturday, September 7  -  Shred Truck Events.  Help us fight fraud and protect your identity. Gather all of those old documents that have sensitive information, such as names, Social Security numbers, etc. and bring them to our shred trucks.
This event is in partnership with the Inkster chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Zphi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
Location: Booker T. Dozier Recreation Center. 2025 Middlebelt Road, Inkster.
Time: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.



Sunday, September 8  -  Grandparents Day Celebration. Our annual event honors the special bond between grandparents and their grandchild(ren). Enjoy exhibit and museum tours, old & new school games, music, the AARP health and wellness zone, healthy snacks and fun, and more - at two locations!

Thursday, September 26  -  HomeFit.  AARP HomeFit is a two hour program which helps us identify how we may remain safely in our own home as we age. This program will lead your through the process of thinking about each area of your current home to determine how it may be adapted to meet your changing needs. It is designed to empower us to plan for independence, choice and dignity as we get older.

Sunday, September 28  -  AARP Multicultural Fashion Show.  Enjoy fashions from Chinese, Latino, African American and unique Detroit cultures, which will be featured at our 4th annual Multicultural Fashion Show. Local designers and boutique owners, ages 50+ will be featured. We'll also host a special "Grandparent and Me" segment - You don't want to miss it! Reserve Your Seat!

Saturday, October 19  -  50 Years After Stonewall Symposium. Join AARP Michigan and SAGE Detroit as we honor the 50th anniversary of Stonewall and explore the pursuit for LGBTQ rights. Free lunch reception is available with registration.
This is a free event but registration is required. Space is limited so register early.
