Activities scheduled for a Grandparents Day Celebration on Sunday, September 9th
Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History
AARP Michigan and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History will celebrate the special relationship between grandparents and grandchildren at a Grandparents Day event, on Sunday, Sept. 9 in Detroit. The event will take place from 1-5 p.m. at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, 315 E. Warren Avenue in Detroit.
This free, fun-filled afternoon will include activities for all ages, including:
- Storytelling;
- Musical performances;
- Museum exhibits;
- Dancing;
- A resource fair and more.
AARP Michigan and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History recognize the important and unique role grandparents have played in families. Nationwide, more than 2.7 million grandparents are raising grandchildren, according to census figures — a number that is on the rise across the country.

Lexus Velodrome
Grandparents and grandchildren are invited to the Lexus Velodrome for a Grandparents Day Run/Walk. We will also host tours of the Lexus Velodrome. Enjoy a fun run or walk for health, hear bike safety chats and watch bike racing demos!
The event will take place from 2-4 p.m. at the Lexus Velodrome, 601 Mack Avenue in Detroit. Be sure to RSVP!
