Michigan isn't just known for its Great Lakes and charming small towns. The state is brimming with eerie legends and haunted hotspots that attract thrill-seekers from all over the state. Did you know some of Michigan's most popular attractions have a spine-chilling history? If you're brave enough, here's your guide to some of Michigan's most haunted locations.

The Whitney in Detroit
Once a lavish private residence, now a fine-dining restaurant, The Whitney is known for more than its gourmet meals. Patrons have reports seeing shadowy figures, hearing whispers and feeling sudden cold drafts. The elevator is infamous for operating on its own and some believe the original owner, David Whitney Jr., never truly left.

The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island
This iconic hotel is famous for its beauty... and its ghosts. Guests have reports seeing a woman in a Victorian dress wandering the halls and some claim to hear piano music coming from empty rooms. The island's rich history and isolation make it a perfect setting for ghostly encounters.

The Doherty Hotel in Clare
Built in 1924, this hotel was once a speakeasy and a hangout for Detroit's notorious Purple Gang. After a murder in the lobby in 1938, guests began reporting strange occurrences such as doors locking on their own and unexplained knockings.

The Landmark Inn in Marquette
Perched above Lake Superior, the Landmark is as haunted as it is historic. The most famous ghost here is the "Lilac Lady," a heartbroken woman who allegedly took her own life in the sixth-floor Lilac Room after her sailor lover vanished at sea. Staff and guests have reported seeing her ghost in a floral dress roaming the halls.

Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids
Originally opened in 1913 as the Pantlind Hotel, the Amway is steeped in elegance and ghost stories. One of the most chilling tales involves a young woman who tragically died in a freak elevator accident just a year after the hotel opened, showing this hotel's charm hides a darker side that continues to intrigue visitors.

Eloise Asylum in Westland
Last, but certainly not least, is arguably the most terrifying spot in Michigan. Eloise was once the largest psychiatric hospital in the state. The asylum's dark history of patient mistreatment adds a chilling layer to its haunted reputation. You can visit it today as it's been made into a haunted attraction.

Whether you're a skeptic or a believer, these haunted locations in Michigan are hard to ignore. They offer more than just ghost stories; They are windows into the state's past, filled with mystery, tragedy and the unexplained.
