AARP Eye Center

Imagine a group of people, hands tapping in rhythm... that’s the magic of a drumming circle! It's a joyful, primal experience that’s not just fun but also profoundly healing, even if done virtually.
Research shows that engaging in group drumming can reduce stress hormones, boost immune function and even enhance brain connectivity. It’s like a workout for your neurons!
Music, especially when created together, taps into deep neurological pathways. In fact, studies have found that music therapy can aid recovery after strokes, improve mood in people with depression and enhance cognitive function in older adults.
So next time you hear the call of the drum, don’t just listen, join in! Your brain will thank you for it.
In fact, you can join AARP Michigan and percussionist Kevin "Bujo" Jones for an interactive virtual rhythm circle on Saturdays from 10:00-11:00 a.m. EST, every other month.
No experience is necessary and drums aren’t either. A tabletop or empty container will work just fine. You’ll have the chance to connect with other attendees and Bujo through a Q&A.
