AARP Missouri is celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Social Security program – a vital source of financial stability for over 1.3 million Missourians – with free ice cream and givaways during Aging Matters, Aging with Dignity, Missouri’s Master Plan on Aging Town Hall.

Importance of the 90th Anniversary of Social Security
On August 14, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act. Ninety years later, AARP honors this historic milestone and the program’s enduring impact:

  • Over 69 million Americans receive Social Security benefits.
  • The program lifts 16.3 million older Americans out of poverty annually.
  • It remains a cornerstone of retirement security and must be strengthened for future generations.

Importance of the Aging Matters Town Hall
Hosted by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the town hall will present the draft Master Plan on Aging, developed with input from more than 10,000 Missourians. Attendees will include Missouri citizens, elected officials, and representatives from for-profit and non-profit organizations.
