Tonya Holmes has been selected to receive the 2020 AARP Missouri Andrus Award for Community Service -- the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service. Tonya was selected for her remarkable service which has greatly benefited the community, supported AARP’s vision and mission, and inspired other volunteers.
In addition to her role as the AARP Kansas City Area Team Coordinator, Tonya’s volunteer work is comprised of several community activities in the Kansas City area including multiple church events, Winslow Colnox Bridge Club of Kansas City, Rockhurst University, Raytown Police Department, Raytown Police Citizens Academy, Raytown Senior Council on Aging, Raytown Arts Council, Raytown Community Emergency Response Team, Annual Juneteenth Celebration of Kansas City, Freedom School Summer Program, Black Archives Women's Auxiliary, Christian Teaching for Progressive Fellowship in Kansas City and St. Louis, and serves on Kansas City/St. Joseph Catholic School Advisory Board.
