Citizens for Modern Transit and AARP in St. Louis want you to climb aboard the Ten Toe Express.
The Ten Toe program gathers participants at MetroLink transit stations, where they take a bus or the light rail to destinations such as Forest Park or the South Grand neighborhood.
Sheila Holm, community outreach director for AARP in St. Louis, says the program aims to let people explore the city while providing hands-on experience using public transit. AARP in St. Louis is sponsoring two of its “Brunch Bunch” Ten Toe walks this fall. Activities will include geocaching games and a community walk audit, during which participants note ways to improve streets, sidewalks and parks. Afterward, they’ll gather for a snack or meal. The outings generally take half a day. Says Holm: “You get to meet new people, see new destinations, log your steps for the day and take in a great meal.”
The two AARP-sponsored walks start at 9 a.m. on Saturdays Oct. 29 and Nov. 19; there is no fee for these walks, but participants cover their transit fares and meals. Registration is required. Sign up at aarp.org/stlouis, or call 877-926-8300. For more on the Ten Toe program, go to tentoes.cmt-stl.org or call 314-231-7272.
