AARP Nebraska Legislative Wins 2025 Report

Fighting for Nebraskans 50+ and Their Families

AARP Nebraska listens and advocates for what is important to our members and Nebraskans 50 and over. AARP staff and volunteers work to give you a voice at the state and federal level. During the 2025 Nebraska Legislative Session, 715 bills were introduced with 106 prioritized, 206 approved, and 204 signed into law by Governor Jim Pillen. Bills not passed will need to be reintroduced in the 2026 Legislative Session.

Highlights of the 90-day session include significant wins for consumer protections from scams involving cryptocurrency kiosks, protection for caregivers from Medicaid estate recovery, and fund reallocation to Nebraska's Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) to support essential programs like Meals on Wheels, home care, transportation, and congregate meals.

  • Implementing Consumer Protections to Deter Fraud
  • Protecting the Financial Interests of Family Caregivers
  • Securing Funding for Vital Aging Services Programs

Additional Key Wins Pertaining to:

  • Expansion of Nurse Aid (NA) Employment for Recertification
  • Ensuring Transparency in Prior Authorization Act
  • Elimination of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Sunset Provision
  • Additional Acceptable Forms for Photo Voter Identification
