AARP Eye Center
Vermont consumers are losing thousands of dollars every week to various kinds of consumer fraud. People over 50 are especially vulnerable and account for more than half of all victims. Whether it’s bogus investment deals, the Grandparent Scam, e-mail ploys, lottery scams, or the newest ID Theft scheme - sophisticated con-artists are busy at work coming up with new ways to get you to hand over your hard-earned money. It’s important to keep up to date on the latest scams and schemes to help protect you and the people you care about. Sadly, older Vermonters are being targeted in large numbers. According to Vermont Attorney General William Sorrell, the best prevention is getting educated on these scammers and their various schemes.
AARP Vermont has expert presentations on this subject with good advice on how to avoid becoming the next victim. We have volunteers looking for places to share the knowledge! If your church group, retirement home, senior center, book club, library, Rotary or community group would like a presentation, we can be there. Just contact Elliott Greenblott at egreenblott@comcast.net or VTAARP@aarp.org to find out more and schedule an event.
