AARP DC Celebrates New Office Opening in Navy Yard

AARP signaled another milestone in its efforts to build a more localized presence in communities across the country, with the opening of AARP DC’s new office location in the Navy Yard neighborhood.

On June 29, 2017, AARP DC celebrated the move with an “Opening Day” event attended by more than 100 guests, including: AARP DC Executive Council members, Andrus Award winners, former AARP DC State Presidents, AARP Chapter leaders, community leaders and AARP staff and volunteers.

When AARP first established state offices across the country – more than 15 years ago - the AARP DC state office was placed within AARP’s National Office at 601 E St. Fast forward to 2017, State office visibility and accessibility is a key part of local presence, so it made strategic sense to move the AARP DC state office to a location that better provided those opportunities.

The new AARP DC office is now located at 100 M St. SE, Suite 650, Washington, DC 20003 (Contact information and more are available here).

The mid-day "Opening Day" event included formal remarks from Executive Director of DC Office on Aging Laura Newland on behalf of DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, who in a letter of congratulations wrote,

Additionally, formal remarks were made by AARP DC State Director Louis Davis, Jr., EVP and Chief Advocacy & Engagement Officer Nancy Leamond, CEO Jo Ann Jenkins, AARP Board Chair Joan Ruff and AARP DC State President Joe Williams, Sr., followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony. Davis highlighted the role and the mission of the AARP DC state office in his opening remarks to guests,
