LEGAL COUNSEL FOR THE ELDERLY’S SENIOR MEDICARE PATROL & THE
AARP FRAUD WATCH NETWORK LAUNCH A CAMPAIGN TO FIGHT FRAUD

(Washington, D.C.) – According to the National Council on Aging, financial scams targeting the elderly is emerging as the crime of the 21st century. In addition, D.C.’s Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking says, the growing senior population in D.C. has unfortunately been increasingly targeted for financial and other types of abuse.

TIME:                   Forum from 10 am – 11:30 am; Shredding from 10 am – 2 pm
LOCATION:       Washington Seniors Wellness Center, 3001 Alabama Avenue, SE, Washington, DC 20002

WHAT:  Mayor Muriel Bowser and Ward 7 Councilmember, Yvette Alexander
are scheduled to attend the event which includes:
Fraud Awareness Forum from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., with the following speakers:
Detective Thomas Stein, 6th District Financial Crime Unit: 10:00 am - 10:30 am
Kristin Keckeisen, AARP Fraud Watch Network: 10:30 am - 11:00 am
Lisa Lake, Federal Trade Commission: 11:00 am - 11:30 am
ABC 7 News – WJLA’s Horace Holmes will serve as Master of Ceremonies

Shred Event is from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. A shredding truck will be at the location. The public can drive-up or walk-up to have their documents shredded for FREE.  All types of paper with staples and papers clips will be accepted.

This event is offered by Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE), LCE’s Senior Medicare Patrol, AARP DC, and AARP’s Fraud Watch Network. Presenting Corporate Sponsor is City First Bank of DC. Presenting Media Sponsors are ABC7 and News Channel 8.
