Two elections are coming up in Wisconsin this year – a primary election on Tuesday, August 14 th and a general election on Tuesday, November 6 th. AARP WI recognizes that there are many issues important to Wisconsinites on the line, and we want you to be prepared to vote. We are educating and mobilizing voters across Wisconsin for what is sure to be a critical election. Check out some great resources on state and federal issues below, mark your calendars for the August and November elections, and be sure to be the difference and vote.

  Federal Issues

Medicare, Social Security, support for family caregivers, and prescription drug costs are all on the line.  But the election is coming and we can make our voices heard. Americans 50+ are the nation’s most powerful voting bloc. And there’s only one way politicians will work on the issues that matter to us: We have to make them do it.

We have a goal of collecting pledges to vote from at least 1,200 Wisconsinites between now and the Nov. 6 midterm election.  To collect these pledges, our voter van will be making stops at events across Wisconsin where we will be encouraging people to be the difference and vote. Be sure to join us at one of our stops! If you can’t make it to a stop on our van tour, sign the pledge to vote online at www.aarp.org/pledge2vote.

State Issues

We kicked off our educational campaign for state legislative candidates by sending a mailing to all the Wisconsin legislative candidates of all parties who were certified by the Wisconsin Elections Board as having met the requirements to be on the ballot this year. The mailing included a copy of our  Position Papers setting forth the legislation we would like to see passed next session, along with some background on the issue and a brief explanation of why the issue is important to the 50+ population in Wisconsin. We also created the handout We Want to Know to make it easy for our advocates and friends to ask questions of the candidates at campaign meetings. Please feel free to share the handout.

We would enjoy hearing your feedback about elections that you hear from the candidates. Please direct the feedback on state issues to hmdicks@aarp.org.
